Stumbling Into Walter Mitty

As I mentioned in my John's of 12th Street post, last summer we were on our way to dinner at Del Frisco's Steak House on 6th Avenue. We had just walked down to 6th and were just two blocks away, anxious (as usual) to make our reservation, when we were stopped by Police who had blocked off the entire intersection.

We could tell immediately (the trucks are always a dead give-away) that something was filming. We asked someone what it was, and that was the first we'd heard that Ben Stiller was doing a remake of Walter Mitty with Kristen Wiig. There was some confusion among the police and the production staff as to whether or not we'd be able to go around the corner. While we waited, we tried to spot Ben Stiller or Kristen Wiig, to no avail. The only onscreen talent we saw was a group of extras.

We finally had to give up on making it through the intersection and backtracked to 7th Avenue. Luckily, we still managed to make our reservation.

It was pretty cool finally being able to see the trailer a few months ago, having already had a tiny glimpse of it in the making.
