Day 9.3: The Bibury Coast

After we left Cardiff, we had our shortest drive, to Bibury (sounds like "bribery") in the Cotswolds, a range of rolling green hills west of London. With no strict timetable and having left at a reasonable time, we were able to just coast along (get it?) on our way there.

We immediately fell in love as we drove through town on our way to the Swan Hotel (a popular name -- there are multiple Swan Hotels in the UK). The buildings are all made of stone and some of them date back to the 1400s. The streets are tiny with winding roads. Everything looks straight out of a storybook, especially our hotel.

Everything about our hotel is fantastic (except the wifi, but it's hard to care when you're surrounded by such charm). All of the rooms have a name. Ours is the Rookery, a two-bedroom suite with its own tiny , curved staircase. It's a little challenging to get our heavy bags up, but  definitely worth the effort.

The suite was just as charming, with complimentary cookies and their own bottled water, and teddy bears on the beds (available for purchase, of course). We even have our own little back doors, though technically they're just supposed to be used as fire escapes.

After we got settled in, we were ready for dinner. Since Bibury is so tiny, there are not a lot of choices close by. The Swan Hotel also has a restaurant, but we were looking for something more casual.

So we walked down the road to a little tavern called The Catherine Wheel. The sign out front promised "fantastic food" and they weren't kidding. Aside from them having just run out of the steak that Madison and I both wanted, the food was truly fantastic. We liked it so much, we decided to go back for breakfast (more likely lunch) tomorrow.

After dinner, we took a brief stroll around town. We just couldn't get enough
we would have wandered around even longer, but the sun was going down and we didn't want to try to find our way back in the dark.
