Day 0: But Mostly New England

After spending last summer in Merry Olde England, this summer we opted to head back to New England (which is neither new, nor England. Discuss).

We'd decided to go back to Martha's Vineyard for our summer trip, mostly at Madison's suggestion. We'd all been wanting to go back for a while and would definitely go more often if it was closer.

It's a two-day trip to Massachusetts, then there's still the ferry ride, which we booked for Monday morning just to make it easier. We hit the road as soon as we got off work to get some miles behind us. Whenever we head north, we can either take the western route (77/81), which is longer, but bypasses DC, or the eastern route (40/85/95), which is shorter, but goes right through it. We knew we wouldn't get to DC until around 10:00pm, so thought we'd be fine with the eastern route. Didn't think about it being July 4 weekend.

We actually got through DC without too much trouble. It was the trek to it from Fredericksburg that was the problem.
It was really slow going, but fortunately,  we never stopped moving. Definitely a plus. We only ended up being an hour and fifteen minutes behind schedule. Which is also the difference in time for the western route.

We finally made it to our first stop in York, PA, shortly after 1:15 am. We were all extremely tired, but thankful that we're only driving into Philly tomorrow. Looking forward to a little relaxation and mini-golf before the rest of the trek up north!
